A few weeks ago, I shared my work-in-progress map for Arkia, along with some old versions. Today, I’m sharing the new, complete map along with closer details. (World map for Chelynne is still in progress.)

Here is the full color map for Arkia. You can see the five floating capital cities named. Some of the smaller towns and cities are also marked, but I didn’t want to clutter up the map with a lot of names. You can see them in more detail below.

This is the Central Province, where you can find Lyndamon City. This map will be included in Riwenne & the Bionic Witches. (Printed books will have a black and white version, while the full color is for ebooks.) Some of the other locations can be found in future books. For example, if you read the excerpt about the Sea Goddess’s Temple last week, that’s in Damondytti Port, along the coast of Jenatta’s Bay. As the series goes along, you’ll get to learn more about these fascinating locations.

Here is the Northern Province. If you’ve read “Amena’s Rise to Stardom!”, you’ve probably already seen this map. You’ll recognize locations like Jabin Village, where Amena and Deryt grew up; Serynda City, where most of the Star Search competition took place; and Olona, the capital where the climax of the competition and the story happened. Our heroes will go back to the north someday, but it might not look the same.

Finally, here’s a map of Lyndamon. Current versions of Riwenne & the Mechanical Beasts actually include this map, because the city is where all of the action takes place in the first book. You can see the main locations marked here, including the temple, the Ministry of Research & Development, Riwenne’s old school, and even the bookstore (Turn the Page). Again, the paperback has a black and white version but ebooks get this full-color illustration.

So that’s all the maps I’ve made–for now. I might go into more detail with some of the other cities and/or provinces as the heroes explore the world. Fun fact: the Empire of Arkia was called “the Five Eastern Kingdoms” for a while. But I’ve noticed a lot of other fantasy worlds with places called The Five Kingdoms, and “kingdom” wasn’t a very accurate description for the realms after I switched from monarchy to theocracy. I guess it’s not really an empire without an emperor, either, but I wanted to express the size of the five linked areas.

As for how I came up with the names, well, that’s a story for another day. Stay tuned for a future blog post about the Arqan language and how I developed it.
